When most people think of jets, fighter planes, like the F-35B STOVL, usually come to mind. Well, not in this case. We’ve rounded up five of the coolest jet-powered vehicles — some of which are street legal — for your viewing enjoyment. Continue reading to see them all.

5. Toyota MR2

Valued at $30000, this custom-built Toyota MR2 jet car is powered by dual 58 General Electric turbines, complete with afterburners. Unlike Jay’s street-legal car, you’ll only be able to enjoy its speed at the track. Fortunately, it boasts a full-interior, so track days will at least be comfortable.

4. F-150 Truck

This F-150 Jet Truck could quite possibly be the coolest ever. The most notable modification is “a Czechoslovakian Motorlet M-701 turbojet [strapped] to the truck bed.” To install the jet in the truck, Lentz fabricated a sturdy mounting stand, a twenty-gallon kerosene tank, and a control console from aluminum and stainless steel.

3. School Bus

Here’s a first: a jet-powered school bus that’s capable of reaching speeds in excess of 350mph. Paul Stender “built the bus for two reasons: the first is to entertain people because, come on, it’s a jet bus [and] the second, is to keep kids off drugs.” This work of brilliance and terror comes from the mind and shop of Paul Stender, whose Indy Boys Inc. team constructed the entire vehicle (a standard issue bus wouldn’t have withstood the rocket) from scratch.

2. Flatmobile

Ok, so it’s not really the Batmobile, but the jet-powered, street legal “Flatmobile” — also known as the world’s lowest car — definitely drew inspiration from its famous counterpart. In addition to hovering 19-inches off the ground, this vehicle can travel at speeds in excess of 90mph.

1. Batmobile

For a cool $620,000, you could be the proud owner of a sleek, turbine-powered Batmobile. It “was constructed in a professional racing facility alongside Grand Prix, DTM, Indy and Sports Racing cars.” Putsch Racing reminds interested parties that the mean machine is street registered in the US, so you can roll like the Dark Knight without fear of the police pursuing you. An iPad loaded with digital avionics helps you monitor the jet engine, and you can use your choice of three fuel sources to power the thing.
