Truck Haul 800K Dimes Accident Texas
No, this isn’t the plot of an upcoming action heist movie. A real-life truck loaded with dimes had an accident in Texas. On April 29, 2025, an 18-wheeler hauling about 8 million freshly minted dimes ($800,000) tipped over on U.S. Highway 287 in Alvord, Texas, roughly 50 miles north of Fort Worth.

What happened? The Texas Department of Public Safety said the driver swerved off the road, oversteered to correct, and the truck flipped onto its side around 5:30 am, spilling coins across the highway and into nearby grass and dirt. Cleaning it up took nearly 14 hours, closing the southbound lanes until about 7 pm.

Truck Haul 800K Dimes Accident Texas
Crews used shovels, heavy-duty vacuum trucks (typically used for sewage or water), street sweepers, and even their hands to recover the dimes. Some coins were collected by sifting through dirt in the median. The driver and a passenger were taken to Medical City Decatur with non-life-threatening injuries and were reported to be in stable condition. There was no hazardous material in the truck.

It’s not clear why the dimes weren’t in bank rolls or where the truck was going. Authorities, including the United States Armored Company, helped with the cleanup, but it’s not certain if all 8 million dimes were picked up. Local people and officials, like Alvord Mayor Caleb Caviness, pointed out the odd cleanup process, with some making jokes about using metal detectors to find leftover coins.
