Just like Alaska’s Department of Transportation, the UK’s Ministry of Defence is now employing AI-powered robot dogs, but instead of scaring away wildlife, this one is designed for bomb disposal missions. During the four-day trials, the robots demonstrated their ability to seek out, detect, and classify bomb threats.
In addition to seeking, detecting and classifying bomb threats, the robots were able to defuse them by either using its robotic arm or a shooting smaller IEDs with a bolt-firing gun. A human operator watches over the robot in case of an emergency, while its AI capabilities enabled it to take over many of the tasks, allowing for extremely precise movements during critical moments.
