Here’s a rare look at the unreleased HP WindsorNot, which was basically the webOS-based equivalent of the iPhone, or so the company planned. It features 4″ (800 x 480) touchscreen and a home button that appears to be sourced directly from the TouchPad.
What is webOS? Put simply, a Linux kernel-based multitasking operating system for smart devices, like smart TVs. However, it has also been used as a mobile operating system for devices such as the HP WindsorNot. This operating system was originally developed by Palm, Inc. before they were acquired by Hewlett-Packard. HP then made the platform open source, at which point it became known as Open webOS.

Imagine if this was the base OS for Android phones now. Look how old that is and the animations, the smoothness (when it’s not doing alpha-software shenanigans), the way the cards interface works. It’s a crying damn shame this OS is not still available on a mobile device. Given the same time iOS and Android had, webOS could have been groundbreaking,” said one commenter.
