The US Air Force and Boeing have partnered to create an electromagnetic pulse weapon known as “CHAMP” (Counter-electronics High-powered Microwave Advanced Missile Project). This device is essentially a non-lethal nuclear weapons system that can knock out entire electrical grids of buildings in an instant. It uses an extremely powerful microwave oven to generate a concentrated beam of energy which causes voltage surges in electronic equipment, rendering them useless before surge protectors have a chance to kick in. “The capability is real..and the technology can be available today. That’s an operational system already in our tactical air force,” said Major General Thomas Masiello, the Air Force Research Laboratory.
