Navy Railgun

The U.S. Navy plans to integrate a railgun that has a range of over 160 km (100 mi) onto a ship by 2017, and this weapon will utilize components largely in common with those developed and demonstrated at Dahlgren. The hyper-velocity rounds weigh 10 kg (23 lb), are 18 in (460 mm), and are fired at Mach 7. The railgun was originally scheduled for testing at sea on the USNS Trenton this year, but plans for that have been pushed back to late 2017, or early 2018.
