Used iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 handsets with ByteDance’s TikTok installed are fetching thousands online, as the app remains unavailable for download on the US App Store. Apple states that it is unable to reinstate TikTok due to their obligation “to follow the laws in the jurisdictions where it operates.”
President Donald Trump signed an executive order that gives TikTok a 75-day extension immediately after taking office on Monday. This means the United States will not enforce the law meant to force the app’s owner to sell the company, thus leading to ByteDance’s US host Oracle restoring service. However, the non-enforcement promise is typically not treated by courts to be binding, even when defendants face serious consequences from relying on them.
