Vast Space Station Artificial Gravity
There’s Orbital Assembly Corporation, and now, startup Vast who plan to build a space station with artificial gravity in low Earth orbit. Founder Jed McCaleb stated that the next step for innovation is habitation, and his company is developing low-cost stations as well as artificial gravity so that people can live in space for extended periods of time without the permanent side effects of zero-gravity.

When humans are exposed to zero-gravity for long periods, it results in harmful side effects such as muscle atrophy, bone loss, and even brain damage. This means that current astronauts must limit their visits to space to reduce the damaging toll on their bodies. Having a space station with artificial gravity offers a healthier environment for long-term stays in space using a large spinning structure. The resulting centrifugal force created by such a structure generates a gravity-like pull.

Vast’s mission is to enable a future where millions of people are living across the solar system. The solar system has an incredible amount of resources. If we had access to those resources, our civilization could grow and thrive while preserving our planet. Once large populations of humans can live in space, we can create the industry and infrastructure needed to access those resources at-scale,” said Jed McCaleb, Vast Founder.
