Volkswagen XL1 vs Veyron

The Volkswagen XL1 doesn’t look like a typical hybrid, with its Lambo-style doors and all, but the vehicle does make great use of its 27 horsepower electric motor paired with a 47 horsepower two-cylinder engine. With a zero to sixty time of 12.1 seconds, it can achieve 261 miles per gallon. Even with those numbers, the guys over at Top Gear Poland pit it against a Bugatti Veyron. The XL1 car was designed to be able to travel 100 km on 1-liter of diesel fuel, while being both roadworthy and practical. To achieve such economy, it is produced with lightweight materials, a streamlined body and an engine and transmission designed and tuned for economy. The Volkswagen XL1 plug-in diesel-electric hybrid is available only in Europe and its 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery delivers an all-electric range of 31-miles, has a fuel economy of 260mpg under the NEDC cycle and produces emissions of 21 g/km of CO2.
