Yves Rossy, nicknamed “Jetman,” is no stranger to death defying stunts, and his latest creation is no exception. His famous wingsuit has been equipped with a new autonomous VTOL system that packs four powerful Jetcat P550 turbine engines. This means he now has enough vertical lift to fly straight upwards at up to 112 mph. Read more for a video and additional information.
He’s also working with a Swiss team of engineers to develop an autonomous, self-balancing vertical takeoff system. The new footage above shows him taking off and hovering over a lake attached to a tether before landing. Everything is finger-controlled through his gloves, and the jet wing automatically balances itself while he hovers.
