Zip-Fastener Ship Zipper

Artist Yasuhiro Suzuki from Japan created what could best be described as a giant zipper-shaped ship, called the “Zip-Fastener Ship”. It boasts a chrome body, bridge and puller that make up the three parts of an actual zipper. He got the inspiration for this project when looking down at Tokyo Bay from an airplane and seeing a ship making its way across the Sumida River, unzipping the water as you could say. The artist says that if you look closely at the gently flowing Sumida River, swaying water can be observed that changes its shape due to the splashing of waves. As the fastener ship sails, he aims to bring out and convey the various expressions of water that lurks around us.

If you look at the gently flowing Sumida River, you can see the swaying water that changes its shape due to the splash of waves that the ship has set up on the sparkling water surface that reflects the sky. As the ‘Fastener Ship’ sails, we will bring out and convey the various expressions of water that lurks around us,” said the Sumida River Sumi-Yume Art Project.
