Foodies have probably heard of, or experienced, Modern Toilet, a unique bathroom-themed restaurant chain, based in Taiwan, with several branches throughout Asia. Well, now a similar restaurant has opened up in the City of Industry, CA. As you can see, “the cafe lobby is adorned with both urinals and toilets, and the prime tables have shower heads fitted on the adjoining wall.” Continue reading for more pictures.

Here’s what Tony Chen of Eater has to say:

If the imported miniature toilet bowl ceramicware used extensively by the restaurant doesn’t offend you, imagine it filled with goopy brown curry.

If diarrhea-looking food swimming in a toilet bowl still doesn’t offend, understand the dish is named signature “golden poop” rice.

Order correctly (chicken wings, Taiwanese sausage, fried tofu), and the food arrives in a miniature floor commode which was the stuff of nightmares for Western backpackers in Asia in the past.

Everything in the 2,800-square-foot, three-story restaurant is based on items from a bathroom. The checkered tile covered walls are adorned with showerheads, while plungers hang from the ceiling along with feces-shaped lights. The chairs are actual unworking toilets, dishes are served on plastic miniature toilet bowls, and drinks in miniature urinals.

Owner Wang Tzi-Wei opened Modern Toilet after the success of his ice cream shop that sold swirls of ice cream served in mini toilets. It is not odd for Taiwan to host restaurants with unusual themes. Taiwan also has eating locales that resemble jailhouses and hospitals.
