General Motors has unleashed a street / track beast that demands attention, the 2026 Corvette ZR1X, a hybrid all-wheel-drive juggernaut that delivers a staggering 1,250 horsepower, positioning it as a direct challenger to the world’s most elite hypercars.

The hand-built, Corvette ZR1-sourced 5.5-liter LT7 flat-plane V8 1,064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque. This makes the engine the most potent V8 ever produced by an American automaker. Add to that a front-axle electric motor lifted from the Corvette E-Ray, contributing an additional 186 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, and the result is a vehicle that most supercars would shy away from at the track. “The ZR1X launches Corvette into true hypercar territory and sets a new benchmark for full-line automakers,” said a Chevrolet spokesperson, emphasizing the car’s revolutionary intent.

The 1.9-kWh battery, recharged via regenerative braking, powers the electric motor, while an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission channels this force to the rear wheels. Josh Holder, Corvette chief engineer, put it succinctly: “It brings performance, electrification, and all-wheel drive to further enhance the unthinkable ZR1.” The result? A car that hits 60 mph in 1.99 seconds and blazes through the quarter-mile at over 150 mph, numbers that rival the Bugatti Bolide’s track-focused fury.

Chevrolet didn’t just bolt on more power and call it a day. The ZR1X’s mid-engine architecture, designed from the outset with this hypercar in mind, ensures balance and agility. “From day one, we designed the mid-engine Corvette architecture with ZR1X in mind,” said General Motors Senior Vice President Ken Morris. “This is the most revolutionary platform in Corvette history.” The car’s chassis comes in two flavors: a standard setup with Michelin PS4S tires for road-friendly dynamics and an optional ZTK Performance Package with stiffer springs and grippier Michelin Pilot Cup 2R tires for track dominance. Both configurations feature Magnetic Ride Control, adapting in real time to driver inputs and road conditions for razor-sharp handling.

Braking is equally formidable. The standard J59 package equips the ZR1X with Alcon carbon-ceramic rotors—16.5 inches at all four corners—paired with 10-piston front calipers and six-piston rear calipers. During testing, Chevrolet recorded 1.9G of deceleration from 180 to 120 mph, a figure that underscores the car’s ability to shed speed as ferociously as it gains it. A new PTM Pro traction management setting disables traditional stability controls while retaining regenerative braking torque vectoring and front-axle pre-control, maximizing corner-exit grip.

An optional Carbon Aero package increases downforce with a larger rear wing and front dive planes. Available as both a coupe and a convertible, the ZR1X pays homage to Corvette heritage with a split rear window on the coupe.

Inside, the ZR1X debuts a triple-screen digital cockpit, along with a redesigned console, shared with other 2026 Corvettes, that streamlines buttons for a cleaner, more luxurious feel. Megan Dalley, Corvette marketing manager, called it “the most advanced Corvette we’ve ever produced,”

Set to hit dealerships by late 2025, the ZR1X will be a full-production model, not a limited-run exotic. Pricing remains under wraps, but with the ZR1 starting at $189,195, expect the ZR1X to command a premium, likely around $210,000-$225,000.
