The 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance has landed in the US and it’s the fastest Model Y for those who want it. The only downside is it starts at $57,490 which is $12,500 more than the base Long Range RWD and $8,500 more than the Long Range AWD. It’s also $2,500 more than the Model 3 Performance which can go 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds.
This Model Y is all about speed since it can go from 0 to 60 in 3.3 seconds which is like some supercars. A mere 0.9 seconds separates it from a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. It’s the biggest Model Y yet at 4,466 pounds, but it handles like a feather. The staggered 21-inch Arachnid wheels grip the road and the new adaptive damping system adjusts the suspension in real time for a smooth and razor sharp ride. A carbon fiber spoiler and revised front and rear fascias cut drag and add downforce.

Range is where things get interesting. The EPA rates the Model Y Performance at 306 miles which is decent but 20 miles less than the Long Range AWD. In Europe where the new LG battery cells have leveled the playing field across trims the range differential is negligible. But the Performance’s high density battery cells fall short of that distance. But 306 miles is plenty for most and the ability to charge faster with the new cells means less time at the charging station.

When you get in the car the front sport seats are heated, vented and bolstered to keep you comfortable through tight turns. The back seats which are also heated and ventilated recline with the press of a button for more comfort for passengers. Power adjustable thigh extenders are available in the front seats for those with longer legs. The 16-inch high-definition screen is the hub of everything from navigation to climate control. Acoustic glass and sound damping materials keep the cabin quiet so you can focus on the road or the upgraded music system. Tesla is even offering a free white interior option which adds a nice touch to the whole thing.

Practicality hasn’t been forgotten, the Model Y Performance can tow up to 3,500 pounds with a free tow package that includes a class II steel tow bar. This $1,300 value comes free but savvy consumers can find a class III for less. Free color options which is rare for Tesla is the cherry on top so you can customize without breaking the bank.
