Ever wonder what happens if a pilot were to open an airplane’s cockpit window during takeoff or mid-flight? If so, you’ll be glad to know that if it were to happen at 6,000 feet (1,829 m) and 250 knots, the pilot would be able to slide over and look straight forward out of the window. The strangest part? You won’t even notice the slightest breeze in the cockpit, but the noise level is extremely high.
Boeing deemed this being important enough to produce a video showing exactly this scenario in a 777 with an open cockpit window. Similar to smaller planes, the noise level in this wide-body airliner is also crazy high, all the while being entirely possible to lean over and look out of the open window to see forward if the main windscreen is obstructed.
