3D pixel artist Dott has given Nintendo’s original Pokémon Red game an HD-2D makeover in Unreal Engine. Many familiar scenes are shown in the side-by-side comparison to the original Game Boy version Pallet Town, a newish looking Vermilion City and even stepping inside of a player-character’s home.
Pokémon remakes are nothing new, but this one is the first we’ve seen with a Square Enix-inspired HD-2D look. We’re hoping the next set of videos showcase battling the Elite Four and the new Champion: the player’s rival. Dott is also no stranger to remakes, as the artist has also given Final Fantasy Tactics and Chrono Trigger HD-2D style makeovers. On a related note, did you know that developer Satoshi Tajiri said that the Poké Ball concept was inspired by Ultraseven’s Capsule Monsters from the tokusatsu superhero television series Ultraseven?
