AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT GPU Mod 12GB VRAM
The AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT GPU was released in 2020 and came with 6GB of RAM, which wasn’t quite enough for modder Paulo Gomes. So, he decided to replace the 1GB Samsung GDDR6 14Gbps memory modules with faster 2GB 16Gbps chips. Replacing the modules was the biggest hurdle, as it required warming the connection points with a heat gun before they could be safely removed.

Those familiar with GPU modding know that there isn’t support for 12GB of memory in the RX 5600XT BIOS, so that had to be edited with a few HEX changes and then flashed to the card. Once that was completed, testing revealed that the new memory modules showed a large increase in performance. Most games won’t see this big bump in performance, although titles that utilize more than 6GB of video memory should see an increase.
