Researchers from the Beijing Institute of Technology in China used AI to train a robot rat and then put it through a series of 3.5-hour trials to see just how it would interact with its real-life counterpart.
They discovered that the camera-equipped robot was able to visually detect and track the real rat before it approached to see if it was open to either an aggressive or friendly social interaction. One positive engagement saw the robot touching its nose and sometimes even pouncing, while the rodent reacted negatively to being pinned.
