Former The Tonight Show host Jay Leno got the chance to drive the refreshed 2026 Tesla Model Y, and chief designer Franz von Holzhausen drops some hints about the upcoming Performance model. More specifically, they brought a Launch edition to his garage, while all the other variants, the Dual-Motor base edition, Rear-Wheel Drive, Performance, and seven-seater options, are set to to be released later this year.
The Launch edition boasts a range of 320 miles compared to the 311 miles on the current Long Range AWD version. Need more range for a long road trip? Just 15 minutes of DC fast charging is good for up to 154 miles of driving. It’s definitely no slouch on performance either, as it can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour time in 4.1 seconds, compared to its predecessor’s 4.8 seconds.

Interesting how the 3 light bars in the rear bothered them enough to make it 1 light bar but the front bar being 3 didn’t bother them. Would have been way slicker with 1 long bar in the front. Maybe its 3 to define the curve of the car better at night?,” said one commenter.
