Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s is not a movie title, but a limited-edition G-Wagen that’s got everyone talking. This beast is a retro-inspired tribute to the original W460 G-Class from the ’80s, specifically the 280 GE.
It’s packed with nostalgic vibes, complete with amber turn signals, classic five-spoke wheels, and paint colors like Agave Green, Cream, or Colorado Beige that scream ’80s adventure. Only 460 units are being made (a nod to the W460 model code), and it’s based on the 2025 G550 (or G450d/G500 in some markets).

This limited-edition G-Class comes in two variants, both based on the 2025 model year and powered by 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engines with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The G550 variant makes 443 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, with the mild-hybrid system adding a small electric boost, typically around 20 hp and 148 lb-ft, for smoother acceleration as well as better fuel economy.

As for the 3.0L turbocharged inline-six, diesel variant, it makes 362 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, paired with a similar 48-volt mild-hybrid setup as the G550. Both variants use a 9-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes’ legendary 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system with three differential locks (front, center, rear) for unstoppable off-road capability.

Technology wise, the cabin features a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a matching 12.3-inch central touchscreen run Mercedes’ latest MBUX system, offering navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice control. A Burmester 3D surround sound system delivers concert-hall acoustics, perfect for blasting ‘80s hits or modern tracks. Pricing starts around €160,055 (~$203,000), and while it’s hitting the U.S. later in 2025, exact numbers for North America are unclear.

The Mercedes star on the hood employs the design of the historic emblem, featuring the Mercedes-Benz laurel wreath and lettering on a blue background. The tailgate door also features a unique design element paying tribute to the 1980s – the silver brand badge featuring black ‘Mercedes-Benz’ lettering – and an edition-specific spare wheel cover,” said the company.
