Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic Concept
Mercedes has always produced vehicles that turn heads, and the Vision Iconic does just that. This two-door coupe concept made its debut at Fashion Week in Shanghai, and its designers returned to the brand’s 100-year playbook to remodel the upright grille as well as three-pointed star into something that pays homage to the 1930s while looking forward.

Long lines stretch across the body, like the grand tourers of the past, while the front grille is illuminated with sleek lights behind smoked glass. We can’t forget the headlamps that appear to cut through the darkness like blades. Fender vents on the sides imply speed and the roof dips low to meet a rear that curves just enough to look like it’s moving, even when it’s standing still.

Inside, the cabin becomes a private hideaway, starting with velvet on the front bench seat. A glass framework spans the dashboard, with screens and dials that tick like old clocks. Marquetry in mother-of-pearl and straw covers panels and floors, taking 1920s crafts and plunking them into a Level 4 hands-free driving environment. When you open the door, the gauges light up in sequence like the car is waking up from a long nap. Brass accents catch the light and the steering wheel holds the emblem in a crystal orb – details that make the ordinary extraordinary.

Technology is deeply embedded here, beginning with the act of driving. Level 4 automation means that the car takes control of mapped roadways, handling everything from interstate merges to parking spots without your involvement. A steer-by-wire system eliminates mechanical linkages and, paired with rear-axle steering, allows this long coupe to turn like a car half its size.

Neuromorphic computing powers the brain by mimicking how human nerves fire to process the world around them. This setup processes data 10 times faster than today’s CPUs and uses a fraction of the power – down to 90% less in some cases. It allows the car to read traffic signs, recognize pedestrians and avoid potholes like a seasoned driver, all while conserving battery for the long haul. The exterior is covered with a solar coating, turning sunlight into driving range without a single panel in sight. Mercedes says a full coat could add 12,000 km a year under clear skies, enough to cross continents on free energy.
