The Acura NSX Roadster driven by Tony Stark in The Avengers is up for auction, and the timing is excellent given Acura’s role at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. This one-of-a-kind custom car made by Acuras just for the 2012 Marvel film will make its first public appearance at a Sundance fundraiser before coming up for auction on Cars & Bids.
Acura’s design studio in Los Angeles, with the support of California-based fabricators Trans FX, set out to build this roadster from the ground up, starting with an existing 1991 first-generation NSX chassis with 252,000 miles. Rather of beginning from scratch, the crew employed handcrafted epoxy and fiberglass pieces to reshape the body into a sleeker, if not futuristic, shape that resembles the design of the second-generation NSX Concept, which appeared around the same time as the film. They reduced the ride height by 2 inches to give it a more aggressive stance, installed 18-inch wheels, and upgraded the seats to aftermarket ones while keeping much of the original interior intact. The finished result is perhaps the ideal supercar for Tony Stark: sleek, creative, and with a subtle sense of power.

The car barely appears briefly in The Avengers, and you could be forgiven for believing it was only a CGI render if you knew how much effort went into making this roadster roadworthy and attractive on screen. The “Stark 33” license plate is a subtle but undeniable reference to its Hollywood heritage.
The NSX will be on display at the Celebrating Sundance Institute: A Tribute to Founder Robert Redford event on the 23rd at the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley during the Sundance Film Festival (Jan 22 – 26) in Park City, Utah. Acura is sponsoring the event as part of their 16-year association, and we’re there to honor Redford’s legacy while also raising money for the Sundance Institute, which helps budding filmmakers. Actress Tessa Thompson will do the honors during the event.
Acura has picked Cars & Bids as their auction site for the NSX. Although no starting price, reserve price, or auction date has been disclosed, potential bidders may now receive the inside scoop by following the platform. The winning bidder’s chosen charity will receive the earnings, and Acura’s has pledged an additional payment to the Sundance Institute to help continue fostering emerging talent.
