The all-electric Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak prototype has just set a new world record, thanks to two electric motors that produce a combined output of 680 horsepower and plenty of aerodynamic bits. At the Race to the Clouds event, Romain Dumas completed the course in just 7 minutes, 57.148 seconds, besting the previous 8:13.878 record set by Sebastien Loeb in the Peugeot 208 T16 in 2013.
