It’s no maglev Sky Train, but the Amtrak Coast Starlight roomette lets you comfortably see the west coast without having to fly this holiday season. The route begins in Seattle and then winds across Oregon before making its way down the California coastline, rightfully earning the ‘a grand west coast train adventure’ description found on Amtrak’s website.

Amtrak’s Coast Starlight route offers roomettes, bedrooms, bedroom suites and then large family bedrooms, which cost up to $1,500+ USD for the entire journey. Most single or couples opt for the roomette as it not only offers seating space, but also a horizontal surface for sleeping as well as complimentary meals. However, roomettes do not have an in-room private bathroom, just a basic toilet. You can order meals delivered direct to your roomette or visit the dining car for fresh pasta dishes, salads, entrees and dessert.
