Apple FaceTime may soon get in-air gestures, according to this patent filing for an advanced camera system. This next-generation camera is designed for business users of FaceTime, whether it be brainstorming sessions or just a meeting. Hand gestures can be used to zoom in on something during a presentation and allow note taking show up on a MacBook or iPad display.

In some of the patent sketches, we see it refer to a ‘spread gesture’ that has the user increasing the distance between their thumb and index finger. By performing this gesture, the camera would then zoom in on something that the user is presenting to other members of the FaceTime call. We also see that it covers a function where the camera is used to capture an image or notes for a FaceTime call.

In Apple’s patent FIG. 11G below, we see a user drawing on a notepad and a MacBook camera system is able to capture what’s being drawn and presents on screen in real-time. Great for FaceTime conference calling when trying to convey a new marketing idea, a prototype concept to work colleagues or a team of classmates working on a school project,” said Patently Apple.
