Max Weinbach of XDA Developers reports that the Apple iPhone 11 will use a display device capable of being submerged completely underwater. “The next iPhones are probably going to have displays that work underwater. It’s in the prototype stage right now but seems likely. They have a patent for it and are finally doing it,” said Max. There are different IP ratings that establish how rugged something is, for example, a mobile phone rated at IP68 is “dust resistant” and can be “immersed in 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes”. Other rumored features in the iPhone 11 include an updated Taptic Engine that goes beyond vibrations and is also able to pinpoint exactly which part of the display should vibrate – i.e. tapping one area of the screen would send a vibration there rather than the entire display. We’ll most likely hear more as the September 2019 event rolls closer.
