Apple iPhone 14 Crash Detection 911 Roller Coaster
Apple iPhone 14 users are reporting that crash detection triggers 9-1-1 emergency calls on roller coaster rides. Why? Well, the handset is capable of detecting G-Force up to 256 Gs, one of the key differences for the new accelerometers that the new Apple Watch also has. If activated, it automatically sends a message to first responders with the message: “The owner of this iPhone was in a severe car crash and is not responding to their phone.”

After receiving numerous reports, some recommend putting your iPhone 14 on airplane mode before boarding a roller coaster. This has apparently become a widespread issue causing some users to request Apple implement a “roller coaster mode” in the next iOS update. Crash Detection not only uses G-Force sensors, but also GPS to detect high speeds, microphone for sounds, and a barometer to determine if the airbags have been deployed.

When combined with Apple Watch, Crash Detection seamlessly leverages the unique strength of both devices to get users help efficiently. When a severe crash is detected, the emergency services call interface will appear on Apple Watch, as it is most likely to be in closer proximity to the user, while the call is placed through iPhone if it is in range for the best possible connection,” said Apple.
