Apple’s hardware schedule has been more predictable in recent years, and it appears that the company is preparing for one of those calm moments when the ground beneath our feet still moves. According to reputable sources, three devices featuring the new M5 chip will be announced as early as next week: the 14-inch MacBook Pro, the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro, and the upgraded Vision Pro headset.
Let’s begin with the iPad Pro because, if patterns hold, it will be the first to drop. The M5 CPU underneath maintains a 9-core configuration—three for heavy lifting and six for lighter tasks—while increasing the standard RAM to 12GB across the board. Benchmarks from one of those movies show 12% faster multi-core performance and 36% faster graphics than the M4. The body remains slender as ever, but the “iPad Pro” etching on the back has been removed for a cleaner appearance. There have been rumors about a second front camera that can switch between portrait and landscape mode during video calls, but nothing in the leaks has proven this.

For the time being, the enhanced silicon will be limited to the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro models. This update replaces the base M5 with the M4, providing the same overall performance and power improvements without altering the chassis or screen. The chip’s efficiency may allow for longer battery life, making extended coding sessions or video edits less of a plug-in nightmare. Higher-spec models with M5 Pro or M5 Max won’t be available until early next year, meaning the pricier 16-inch and top-tier models will remain on the current roster for now.
Then there’s the Vision Pro, Apple’s biggest foray into wearable computing, which is getting a mid-cycle makeover. The M5 chip has arrived instead of the M4, as previously rumored, and coding proves the move. Expect better spatial tasks and AI features to perform more smoothly on the device, with less reliance on the cloud for gesture tracking and scene rendering. The head strap is dual-knit straight out of the box, so those marathon periods when comfort starts to diminish will be a little more bearable. A Space Black option could be added to the roster to match your setup. Apple code hints at an R2 processor for improved input processing, although it will be released later and made on finer manufacturing lines. Development on a complete redesign or a low-cost option has been halted, and the business is instead focusing on lighter glasses that could redefine the category in the future.
