Sneaking into Archipelago Cinema isn’t the easiest of tasks, but this floating movie theater on the shoreline of Yao Noi, Thailand is definitely worth a visit or two.
It was created for the Film on the Rocks Yao Noi Festival, organized by Tilda Swinton, along with director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and designed by Beijing-based architect Ole Scheeren. It’s basically a giant auditorium on a glowing raft, made with recycled materials, and accessible by boat. We imagine that this would be a popular outdoor movie theater in the summer, but keeping the platform in functional working order may be more trouble than it’s worth.
