ASU California Center Extended Reality XR Set Virtual
The ASU California Center apparently has an extended reality (XR) set that seamlessly merges real and virtual worlds, similar to Sony’s The Mandalorian set. When filming a virtual production, a pre-configured 3D virtual environment is generated with a graphics engine and then displayed on multiple LED screens that form the background to live-action events.

If you combine these LED screens with s precision motion tracking system, cameras are capable of moving in and around the virtual environment. This seamlessly merges the real and virtual elements, locked them together creating the combined illusion of actually being at a location. Unlike a normal set, lighting is provided by the LED screens, while eliminating the need for chroma key compositing required when using green screens. An XR set also allows actors, host and the production crew to see the virtual environments while shooting in real-time, thus reducing post-production costs.

The screens within the space only need to be as large as the performance area; virtual set extension places the actors in virtual environments that are much larger than the available studio environment. xR allows the creation of multi-purpose studio environments,” said World Stage Inc.
