Mandalorian armor typically includes a helmet with a T-shaped visor that conceals their faces, and armaments like whipcord throwers, flamethrowers, jetpacks as well as grappling hooks. Hacksmith Industries decided to make the latter a reality. Protolabs provided the team with a bespoke 3D-printed metal revolving spool – manufactured with direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) – for the winch, which controls the rope connected to the grappling hook.
As you can see in this build, the winch was easily capable of lifting as much as 200-pounds, which is most certainly a testament to the durability and strength of metal 3D-printed parts. In the films and Disney+ show, the armor itself is made of beskar, a highly durable metal that can repel blaster fire and lightsaber strikes, all the while giving the user maximum protection. Variants were also made from durasteel and other lesser materials due to them being easier to source.
