A big sedan rolled into the 2025 Munich Motor Show and stopped everyone in their tracks. Avatr, a Chinese car maker aiming to rival Rolls-Royce, unveiled the Vision Xpectra – a spaceship-like concept car.
The Vision Xpectra is over 19 feet long, longer than the Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase. Its 3,450 mm wheelbase could swallow a compact car whole. Wide at 2,132 mm and low at 1,405 mm, it’s imposing and elegant. The Avatr design team, led by Nader Faghihzadeh in Munich, created a tough yet flexible body. Clean panels flow into sculpted fenders and big alloy wheels support the car’s stance. A short rear deck flows into broad shoulders and a massive diffuser at the back hints at performance even though no powertrain specs were revealed.

Stepping closer, the exterior comes to life, starting with split LED headlights that run along the car’s profile before merging with the bumper. The greenhouse is a vast glass cabin with prismatic glass that casts a warm glow as you approach. Illuminated body pieces pulse softly as you get near – Avatr calls it “emotional intelligence”. Suicide doors swing open without a central pillar and the cabin is a lounge and a cockpit.

Inside, the Vision Xpectra has four separate seats upholstered in rich leather and straw marquetry, it’s a throne-like experience. The headrests are like velvety inflatable cushions and the ambient lighting changes to match the mood. Transparent displays float across the dashboard and lamella sculptures on the doors merge with the interior as they open and close. At the heart of it all is the “Vortex”, an AI that interacts with passengers through light and motion. A “Cortex” control unit on the central console responds to touch and motion, making buttons seem like relics of the past. Even the furniture, champagne glasses and personalized carry-ons, match the design.

Avatr is a joint venture between Changan, CATL and Huawei, combining Chinese engineering with cutting-edge tech. While the Vision Xpectra won’t be on the road, it’s a showcase of what can be achieved when these giants come together. Current Avatr models have electric and range-extender powertrains and while no specs were given for this concept, it’s safe to assume it will follow suit. The design language is called “The Energy Force” and is all about clean lines and powerful shapes, setting the tone for Avatr’s future lineup. With 17 more models planned by 2030, they’re certainly aiming big.
