BinBot 9000 Autonomous Trash Can
Sure, it’s no autonomous Black Hawk helicopter, but the BinBot 9000 is far more useful in your home. Inventor James Bruton decided that a trash can that can autonomously navigate all the nooks and crannies of your average home, while also driving directly to you when requested.

Thanks to vision-assisted guidance, BinBot 9000 can avoid obstacles, but if it should so happen to run into something, the trash can turns around 90°. The robot does this by looking for targets printed on sheets of paper and stops when reaching it. Just like robotic vacuums, BinBot 9000 can follow a path using these targets. Hardware used include a NVIDIA Jetson Nano board that sends commands gathered from a Raspberry Pi camera to an Arduino Mega 2560. Inside each drive wheel, there are encoders to detect collision, which enable them to stop if they hit something. The frame itself is just aluminum pieces attached to 3d-printed parts.
