China Tianjin Solar Car
A research team in China has just unveiled ‘Tianjin’, a 100% solar car equipped with several autonomous technologies. They claim it never needs to charged, nor does it require additional power sources, thus making the vehicle truly emission-free. It weighs in at just 2248-pounds and has a solar module that spans 8.1 square meters, generating a maximum of 7.6 kWh of electricity per day in perfect weather.

Its battery pack boasts an energy density of 330 Wh/kg, but the capacity is unknown, good for a verified tested range of 74.8 kilometers (46.5 miles). Tianjin can hit a top speed of 79.2 km/h (49 mph), and the team claims that every 100 kilometers (62 miles) traveled equates to a reduction of 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of carbon emissions. As for autonomous technologies, it comes equipped with Level 4 autonomy, which means Tianjin requires no human input if given a set route. If this ever hits North America, it will have competition from the Aptera never charge solar-electric vehicle.

The pure solar car ‘Tianjin’ can move according to the route set by the unmanned system. It will go out of Tianjin and spread the high-end materials and cutting-edge technologies throughout the country,” said the team.
