BMW R 1300 R Titan Motorcycle
BMW Motorrad has a special talent for building motorcycles that combine precision engineering with a unique look and the new R 1300 R “Titan” takes it to the extreme. Designed for sprint racing, the Titan is a stripped down, nitrous powered monster that’s as beautiful to look at as it is to ride.

The engine is the heart of any bike and the Titan delivers. It’s powered by BMW’s 1,300cc liquid-cooled boxer twin churning out 145 horsepower and 149 Nm of torque in standard form. For the Titan BMW’s team added a nitrous oxide system for an extra boost. Linked to the bike’s ECU this adds 30 to 40 horsepower at the flick of a handlebar switch turning a good bike into a drag strip rocket. The nitrous bottle tucked between the silencers isn’t just practical it’s a bold statement this bike is built for action.

BMW worked with Wilbers to create a custom chassis with a long swingarm to keep the bike glued to the ground during high speed launches. It’s low stance hugs the road giving the Titan the look of a predator waiting to pounce even when stationary. The shell-type steel frame paired with a die-cast aluminum subframe saves 40 kilos compared to the standard R 1300 R and prioritizes agility and lightness.

Led by project manager Philipp Ludwig, vehicle designer Andreas Martin, color and graphic designer Theresa Stukenbrock, and prototype builders Paul Summerer and Thomas Becker the team reshaped the R 1300 R into a beast. The fuel tank and fairing use a monocoque design inspired by race bikes while a bold air duct panel shifts the visual weight forward screaming speed.

The exhaust is a collaboration with longtime partner Akrapovič and is a combination of style and performance. Made from titanium it flows from the two cylinders, merges under the bike and exits through a dual flow outlet beneath the sharply angled rear. It’s not just about looks though the carbon fiber heat shields and GP-style mufflers turn heads. The system gives the Titan a deep growl that matches its menacing looks.

What’s coolest about the Titan is the backstory. This isn’t a corporate showpiece designed by a team of faceless designers. It’s the work of a small group of BMW employees given the freedom to go wild. Philipp Ludwig, a Sultans of Sprint veteran, brought his racing expertise to the project and the whole team’s love of motorsport and design is evident in every detail. “The BMW R 1300 R ‘TITAN’—brutal and aggressive, beautiful and extraordinary, fast and precise—built to win,” says BMW. This bike is what happens when engineers and designers are let loose to create just for the fun of it.
