Boom Supersonic‘s XB-1 aircraft demonstrator has successfully completed its second test flight at the Mojave Air & Space Port in Mojave, California. This included retracting / extending the landing gear for the first time, assessing aircraft handling qualities and activating a new digital stability augmentation system.
Engineers applied tufting to the XB-1โs right wing to observe and evaluate the direction and strength of airflow as well as verifying its aerodynamic characteristics. The aircraft flew for approximately 15 minutes and reached a maximum altitude of 10,400 feet while traveling at speeds of up to 232 knots (277 mph). Boom is targeting supersonic flight by the end of 2024.
