Caviar has spent years turning ordinary phones into rolling gold sculptures that draw stares on any street. Now the company has set its sights on Meta’s Ray-Ban smartglasses and named the result Odyssey. Only twenty-four pairs will ever exist, a number chosen to match the books in Homer’s epic. Each one leaves the workshop with hand-worked metal, black enamel, and a charging case wrapped in genuine alligator leather.
The Odyssey is the first of two models in the range, with 24-karat gold plating splashed over the top frame, the tips of the arms, the hinges, and that small capture button you continuously push. The Odyssey Silver replaces all of the gold with silver accents while keeping the same black Wayfarer frame. Both get the VIP treatment from Caviar’s in-house jewellers. Then there’s the gorgeous openwork filigree plaque near the hinge, which features a Greek-inspired rosette design hand-filled with black jewelry enamel. If you look closely, you will notice the relief engraving that runs along the temple and bridge. As the wearer moves, it catches the light and the entire thing shifts, while a continuous ribbon of gold or silver runs across the top of the lenses from one hinge to the other. Yes, it frames the polarized Ray-Ban sunglasses and keeps the tiny camera out of the way without impeding either one.

Everything that made the original Ray-Ban Meta glasses so useful in the first place has remained unchanged since Meta and EssilorLuxottica did not touch anything. You still get open-ear audio for music, calls, and the voice assistant owing to speakers implanted in the temples. With one tap on the touch panel or the capture button, you may begin capturing photos, recording videos, or conversing with Meta AI. That camera is still right in the frame, ready to capture the occasional photograph or video from your own distinctive viewpoint. Battery life, storage, and wireless connectivity are identical to the ordinary Wayfarer devices available for a few hundred dollars.

Caviar is surprisingly charging a premium for the silver version, $6,840 to be exact. If you choose gold over silver, it costs $6,130. Both come in the same alligator-leather case, with the natural grain evident and the snap finished with Caviar’s enamel insignia. If you really want to go for it, you can have solid gold instead of plating. However, after all 20 pairs have been sold, no more of these infants will be available.
