It’s true, the official China National Space Administration (CNSA) Twitter account allegedly has confirmed the discovery of intelligent life, and sparked conversations about it being from another world. Currently, China’s Tianwen-1 is orbiting the Red Planet, and next month, it will drop a lander carrying its rover to the Martian surface. The orbiter and rover will then explore the geology and soil characteristics of Mars, including searching for water and ice. However, China is also using a Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) in the search for intelligent life.
The FAST telescope made its first discovery, of two new pulsars (PSR J1859-01 and PSR J1931-02), in August 2017. Fast forward to September 2018, FAST had already discovered 44 new pulsars. Its surface is made of 4,450 triangular panels in the form of a geodesic dome with 2,225 winches located beneath to make it an active surface, while also pulling on joints between panels to deform the flexible steel cable support into a parabolic antenna aligned with the desired sky direction.
