There’s Chippy, the tortilla chip making robot, and now, Chipotle is testing a new automated burrito bowl and salad making solution. This system basically moves the entrées through the bottom makeline where ingredients for the order are automatically dispensed.
A Chipotle team member can then leverage the top makeline to create burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and kid’s meals for the same digital order, significantly boosting productivity in the workplace. The process all begins when someone places a digital orders via the Chipotle app, and if it includes a bowl or salad, those entrées would be routed to Hyphen’s automated system. A bowl is dispensed and travels along the bottom makeline, positioning itself under the specified ingredient container. Intelligent dispensers dynamically portion each ingredient into the bowl. Unfortunately (or fortunately), it is only being tested at the Chipotle Cultivate Center in Irvine right now.
