Cortical Labs CL1 is touted as the world’s first biohybrid computer, or more specifically a synthetic biological intelligence machine capable of running on living human brain cells. The world these cells live in is created by the company’s Biological Intelligence Operating System (biOS) running a simulated world and sending information directly to the neurons about their environment.
These living neurons are basically cultivated inside a nutrient rich solution, which supplies them with everything needed to be healthy. They then grow across a silicon chip, sending and receiving electrical impulses into the neural structure. However, the neuron is self programming, making it infinitely flexible. The CL1 is expected to retail at around $35,000 USD, but several are needed for each stack to form a biological neural network.
