You’ve seen DOOM on a Commodore 64, now check out DAudio2Doom, a port of the game designed to run on Hyundai’s Linux-based D-Audio 2V IVI head unit. This isn’t a plug-and-play version of the game though, as you’ll also need a root shell and then the ability to create an ADB backdoored firmware for your head unit.
After creating the backdoor firmware, you’ll need three files to start playing: the DAudio2Doom.appconf file, the DAudio2Doom executable, and a DOOM.WAD. The DAudio2Doom.appconf file and the DAudio2Doom executable can downloaded from Github, while the DOOM.WAD file has to be sourced from other means. All three have to be copied to a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive and then launched from a root shell on the head unit. More information here.
- Original Inspired Artwork - For a high quality and authentic retro look
- 2.75 Inch Full Color Display - For a premium nostalgic gaming experience
- Removable Joystick - To play with the directional pad instead if you prefer
I recommend using Ubuntu 20.04 as the development OS. Before building, edit the SYSTEM_IMAGE_ROOT variable in DAudio2Doom.pro to point to the root of your head unit’s mounted system image,” said the developer.
