Playing Doom on a Milky Way bar is one thing, getting Doom 1.1 to run on a multi-monitor setup is an entirely different experience. Shelby Jueden of Tech Tangents was up for the quad monitor challenge, as each display required a separate computer to run the game, and that is not including the setup process.
Doom’s three screen mode was only available in the early versions up to 1.1, and it used three networked computers together to play the game in a virtual reality-inspired style. Each of the monitors are used to show the view of a single player from three different angles: normal, 90° offset to the left, and 90° offset to the right. However, a fourth monitor was added to show the map. The game also had to be set up using the -net parameter so all of the hardware is networked together.
