It’s only a matter of time until the DJI FlyCart 30 regularly delivers supplies to Mount Everest, but for now, the cargo drone successfully transported three oxygen bottles and 1.5kg of other supplies from Everest Base Camp to Camp 1 (5,300-6,000m above sea level).
The drone didn’t leave Camp 1 empty handed, as it carried trash back down. For those unfamiliar with the climb, Everest Base Camp and Camp 1 are separated by the Khumbu Icefall, one of the most dangerous stages of the ascent. Helicopters can theoretically make the same journey, but are rarely used due to the significant dangers and costs.
