A gamer known as 4ShockBlast has set a new DOOM II speedrun record for the Entryway level by completing it in just 4.97-seconds. The previous record was set by legendary gamer Thomas Pilger back in 1998, who completed the same level in 5.97 seconds.
To figure out how to beat Pilger’s time, 4ShockBlast had to continuously play the level without monsters to find the optimal routes while also testing various strategies. What this player discovered was a “Thing Running” trick that enabled the player to bounce off one of the enemies at the start of Entryway to propel themselves quicker around the first corner.

My favorite part about Doom speedruns is the fact that almost all the old runs are still available, thanks to them being in demo files and the old web sites being around for so long. I still remember the early days of Compet-N. And to see it still going strong is amazing,” said one fan.
