You’ve seen DOOM running on a John Deere tractor, now a programmer managed to get the game to load inside Notepad within Microsoft Windows. This version of DOOM is allegedly running without any modifications to the Notepad executable and can be played normally without any additional plugins or software.
Why have you been seeing so many various ports of DOOM? Well, the source code was released back in 1997 under a proprietary license, and then later in 1999 under the GNU General Public License v2.0 or later. This programmer who goes by ‘Samperson’ is also resurrecting Microsoft Kinect, and if you have one, this is most certainly good news.

Microsoft originally developed Kinect as a motion controller peripheral for Xbox video game consoles in 2010, making it the first to not require physical controllers. The first-generation Kinect was based on technology from Israeli company PrimeSense, and debuted at E3 2009 as a peripheral for Xbox 360 codenamed “Project Natal”. It was then released on November 4, 2010, and would go on to sell a whopping 8-million units in its first 60 days of release.
