Unreal Engine 5 has officially been launched and you can download it today. This release has several new features, including Lumen, which is a fully dynamic global illumination solution that allows you to create realistic scenes where indirect lighting adapts in real-time to changes to direct lighting or geometry. There is also a new virtualized micropolygon geometry system, called Nanite. This system gives you the ability to create games and experiences with large amounts of geometric detail. You are able to directly import film-quality source art composed of millions of polygons, all tjhe while maintaining a real-time frame rate without any noticeable loss of fidelity. Virtual Shadow Maps (VSMs) generates believable soft shadows with reasonable, controllable performance costs, working seamlessly together with Nanite to intelligently stream and process only the detail you can perceive.
