Ford’s new Bronco Basecamp is already available for pre-order, and it will arrive in China soon. The Basecamp is Ford’s third Bronco version adapted to local tastes, created in collaboration with Jiangling Motors for the Chinese market.
This Bronco is longer (197.8 inches) than the four-door Bronco produced in the United States (189.4 inches), with a wheelbase of 116.1 inches. That’s a lot more space than the Bronco Sport’s 173.4-inch footprint, allowing you to fit both stuff and people inside. The body is boxy, with large wheel arches and a grille that pays homage to off-road heritage without being overly confusing. More than 30 sensors and cameras are positioned throughout the frame, providing data into driver assistance systems that manage everything from parking to highway driving.

Power is available in two variations, all of which are powered by BYD’s FinDream batteries. The pure EV features a 105.4 kWh battery pack and two motors: 130 kW up front and 202 kW out rear, totaling 445 horsepower. According to CLTC testing in China, a full charge provides a range of 404 miles, and quick charging decreases downtime. You can feel the torque instantly across all four wheels, and it moves quickly on inclines and loose gravel. The extended range edition features a 1.5 liter turbo engine as a generator, allowing you to travel much further without needing to plug in. It includes a 43.7 kWh battery and two motors (130 kW front and 180 kW rear), totaling 416 horsepower. The electric-only range is 137 miles, but with the gas backup, its total range is 758 miles.

The Basecamp’s design highlights camping gear, transforming a standard SUV into a mobile base. With the press of a button, the panoramic glass roof provides 14.2 inches of headroom over the second row. Fold the front seats flat, the headrests will automatically drop, and the back benches will follow suit, leaving a flat platform for a branded inflated mattress across both rows. Sleeping under the stars is simple; the tilt keeps moisture out and ventilation consistent. Out rear, the tailgate transforms into a functional workstation known as the mountain kitchen. A drop down table gives prep room, a magnetic rail organizes utensils, and a built-in bottle opener.

Inside, the cabin’s preset settings adjust lighting, climate, and audio to accommodate downtime, whether it’s a nap, a pet-friendly haul, or an overnight journey into the woods. Navigation includes route planning, which allows you to discuss routes with friends and use real-time data to avoid traffic jams or provide scenic alternatives. Laser radar enhances the sensor array by offering knowledge of your surroundings and smoothing out assists such as lane changes and emergency stops. The materials are dirt and wear-resistant, and the screens react rapidly to swipes and voice instructions.

Pre-order with a 1,000 yuan deposit (about $140), and Ford will include 12,000 yuan in bonuses. Early birds receive the whole camping setup, which costs 1,700 yuan and converts the SUV into a mobile campsite at no additional charge.
