Google Wallet will soon let you create a digital ID from your US passport, and doing so is as easy as following a few on-screen prompts. Once the process is complete, you’ll be able to use the ID at select TSA checkpoints for now, reducing stress when traveling domestically, especially if you forget the physical book.
Put simply, choose the “create an ID pass with your U.S. passport” prompt in Google Wallet and follow the instructions to scan the security chip in the back of your book. You’ll then be asked to take a record a selfie video to verify your identity. Next, Google Wallet will send a notification when your ID pass is ready, typically within a few minutes.

While ID passes are accepted at select TSA checkpoints today, we’re working with partners so you can use digital IDs in even more situations — for example, in the future we believe you should be able to use digital ID for things like account recovery, identity verification and even car rentals,” said Jenny Cheng, VP and GM, Google Wallet.
