Google’s new Project Starline prototype is TV-sized rather than a large booth, yet it still functions similar to its larger predecessor. This version utilizes AI to build a lifelike photorealistic model of the person you’re talking to, and then projects that onto a light field display, but this time requiring just a few standard cameras.
That’s right, it no longer uses complex hardware like infrared light emitters or special cameras to generate a live 3D model of the person you were talking to. This means Google engineers were able to shrink Project Starline down from the size of a restaurant booth to a large flatscreen television. It’s currently being tested by companies who have joined the early access program like T-Mobile, WeWork and Salesforce.
