Insta360 built its name on cameras, but the company’s latest move pulls the focus toward the conference table. Introducing the Wave, an AI speakerphone that doubles as a standalone recorder, packed with microphones.
During the launch, Insta360’s VP of Marketing and co-founder Max Richter stated, “We’ve merged professional audio capture with an AI engine that makes every conversation searchable, shareable, and smarter.” The Wave is a slender cylinder with a floating top that gives it a suspended appearance, a vertical LED strip down the side, and a 1.82-inch circular screen on the bottom. Tap to mute a cough, swipe to upload a file, or hold to begin recording—simple movements that free up your hands for more vital tasks.
- Premium Audio Quality: Equipped with AI audio algorithms, Insta360 Wave eliminates environmental noises, cancels echo and reverberation.
- Directional Pickup: Employs 5 precision-engineered pickup patterns to get the optimal audio quality for different use and different surroundings.
- AI Recording: Insta360 Wave not only captures voices, it records and remembers. With full internal recording, no matter online or offline, make sure...
The core comprises eight microphones arranged in 3D to capture sound at 48kHz resolution from a distance of 16 feet. Distance rarely interferes with broadcast quality, thanks to software that removes echoes and balances volumes in real time. The system can withstand more than 300 common distractions, such as typing keys and passing traffic, while maintaining speech clarity and consistency. Full-duplex audio removes awkward gaps in back-and-forth conversation; everyone can hear each other without the lag that reduces quick exchanges to stiff ones.
It features five modes to suit the situation: omni for a roundtable with voices coming from all angles, cardioid to focus on whoever is leading the charge up front, and supercardioid to block off office noise for a more focused sound. Figure 8 depicts a quick conversation across a desk, with sound coming from both ends but not the sides.
The 32GB built-in storage can keep approximately 1,000 hours of files, which is enough to archive a month’s worth of sessions without blinking. One tap, record, and buffer saves the previous 5 minutes in case the best line appears before you’re ready. Tags allow you to take notes on the move, and muting keeps sensitive information off the recording.

With the Wave and Insta360’s Link 2 webcam, you have a complete meeting kit. Stack the camera on top of the speakerphone, and the sensors will recognize who is speaking and pan the lens to follow them without the need for wires or bother. Controls are synced between the two, so changing the volume on the Wave impacts the video feed as well. A future upgrade will allow multiple Waves to join wirelessly and blanket a space with coverage that grows with the audience.

Then there’s InSight, an AI companion that transforms raw audio into something meaningful. Feed it a recording, and it will transcribe it in any of 99 languages and pin names to voices for simple tagging. Ask a question regarding the talk, and the replies will tie back to specific instances, with assistance from ChatGPT or Gemini if appropriate. Automatic backups ensure that storage is never full.
